We have been planting trees for over 30 years and know that we need to do much more to increase the speed at which trees are planted. We also know that there are many people like yourself that would like to plant trees to help our planet. With us you can do exactly that. When you “Adopt a Tree” you become like a foster parent of a tree. We plant a tree for you and make sure it grows healthy as long as you provide for that tree.
The process of growing trees start with securing land to plant. This can be done by purchasing or leasing land. After this, we clear the area to start planting. Once the area is ready, we plant three seeds for each tree to be grown (this increases the chances for the tree to grow) and add fertilizer so that the tree can grow quicker and healthier. If the tree does not sprout from seed we plant one directly from our nursery and more fertilizer is added. We keep track of every tree planted as they can be very vulnerable during their early days and months. These challenges will vary depending on the tree variety so we try to pick trees that will do best depending on the conditions where the plantation is located. We also try to plant different kinds of trees on each project as this increases diversity which decreases the chances for a pest or decease that could harm the trees to take over. Some early challenges for trees are ants, animals that like their leaves and/or trunks, droughts or excess water, etc. Challenges that arise later are deceases and fires. We need to constantly work around each tree to keep it and the whole project healthy. Grooming around the tree is something that needs to be done constantly to avoid deceases as well as fires. As the tree grows its branches need to be groomed as well to promote growth and make sure it is as healthy as possible. Trees are also grown densely to promote quicker growth. This allows the plantation to capture even more CO2 and for the plantation to reach maturity faster. However, this condition later becomes unhealthy for the plantation so the trees in excess will eventually be cut down, allowing only the healthiest trees to grow and eliminating any that may show signs of any decease. Once a plantation reaches maturity, every tree that reaches this point has the biggest chance to be healthy and the forest should have reached its maturity much faster than just allowing it to grow wild. Nevertheless, there is still a lot of work to be done to make sure the forest remains healthy by doing the correct type of grooming, fire hazard mitigation and decease detection and prevention. Just like any other leaving organism, any of these has to be detected and mitigated as early as possible since they can easily clear vasts areas of a plantation if not taken care soon enough.
When you adopt a tree we plant the tree, secure the land around it and take care of that tree as long as you continue to provide for that tree. If a tree that you are providing for dies, for whatever reason, we will plant another tree. If a tree that you are proving for becomes ill, we will take care of it and make everything we can to reestablish its health. We will follow all the steps needed to take care of that tree as long as you continue to provide for it through the “Adopt a Tree” initiative. If you ever decide you don’t want to continue being part of our program, you can stop your subscription and we will immediately start looking for someone else to adopt it.
As long as you are a “foster parent” to a tree, we will continue to email you information about how our projects are going. You can also continue to find information about them in our website and are always welcome to visit our plantations.
